Casino Pier - Hydrus Construction Update #1: Seaside Screams
One of the coasters opening this year that slipped under the radar was Hydrus, a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter coming to Casino Pier in New Jersey. This coaster will be very similar to other Gerstlauer Euro-Fighters, but, nonetheless, a new coaster is always a good thing. It will be 72 feet tall, have a top speed of 45 mph, three inversions, a 97-degree drop, and a short track length of 1,050 feet. This coaster actually made it onto the Roller Coaster Daily Blog's Top Ten Roller Coasters Opening in North America in 2017 list that was published last Christmas, so make sure to read that! I have a photo below, courtesy of Mike Betzler, of the construction progress on Hydrus. As you can see, the station to the beginning of the vertical loop is complete. Also, the second half of the vertical loop, turnaround (cutback), and the end of the heartline roll helix to the brake run are complete. All that remains is the actual heartline roll and the top of the vertical loop.
