Wildfire at Kolmarden Will Not Be Demolished after Permits Were Revoked
Coaster enthusiasts, you may now let out a sigh of relief.
Wildfire at Kolmarden in Sweden, as previously reported on the Roller Coaster Daily Blog, closed indefinitely after the Land and Environmental Court of Norrkoping, Sweden revoked the building permits for it. The phenomenal and highly-ranked wooden coaster that opened in 2016 was in serious danger, as Kolmarden announced that Wildfire was now at risk of demolition due to the Court saying that Wildfire had an unexpected environmental impact.
Coaster fans immediately created online petitions, one of which gathered nearly 1,500 signatures, and expressed their anger on Kolmarden's social media. Though this outrage most likely had no effect on the Land and Environmental Court's decision to allow Kolmarden to resubmit licenses for Wildfire, it still was noticed by Swedish media and the park itself.
Luckily, Wildfire, as I mentioned in the previous paragraph, will reopen on an undetermined date. The massive wooden coaster, the second tallest and third fastest of its kind, reigns as one of the most well received wooden coasters in history. An article on looopings.nl provided a quote regarding Wildfire's future stating "It is not yet known when the sensational wooden coaster reopens. It should be arranged first [with a] new license. Wildfire is one of the strongest wooden roller coasters in the world." So, if you haven't had a chance to ride Wildfire, you don't have to worry about missing the opportunity, as the giant wooden warrior is now waiting for you to ride.
