Mystic Timbers Construction Update #2: All but the Turnaround
Kings Island, as you probably know, has almost completed construction of its new wooden coaster, Mystic Timbers. The new coaster is being built by Great Coasters International of Pennsylvania, which is considered to be among the best wooden coaster manufacturers in the world. Mystic Timbers is 109 feet tall (because the highest point of the ride has already been built), and it will reach speeds of 53 mph. Mystic Timbers, which I ranked as the best coaster opening this year on Roller Coaster Daily's Top Ten Roller Coasters Opening in North America in 2017 list, definitely looks to be one of the best wooden coasters in the country. From its banked turns to its many ejector airtime hills, Mystic Timbers appears to have the most airtime of any coaster in the park.
In the photo above, you can see that construction of the coaster's structure and track is almost complete. All that remains to be finished is the turnaround and the ends of track crossing a maintenance path that will connect to it. The coaster should be completed by the beginning of March, and testing will follow, as Kings Island opens on April 15. GCI has done a great job building Mystic Timbers, and the coaster appears to be one of, if not the best, roller coaster the company has ever built.
Sadly, there's still no word on what's in the shed. The "shed" can be seen under construction, but there's nothing here folks.
