Silver Dollar City - New 2018 Coaster Construction Update #2: A Drop Out of the Station?
Silver Dollar City began teasing their 2018 project recently, with a sign on the fence in the
Thunderation roller coaster queue that reads "Don't Look Over This Fence... But You Can Be the First to Know" A link to a newsletter signup follows this text. Other than that, Silver Dollar City has only one other time acknowledged that something is going on in the Echo Hollow section of the park.
In a previous blog post, I found out that a Silver Dollar City rep said that the new for 2018 attraction would be "the single biggest thing ever, ever done at Silver Dollar City." This new attraction is figured to be either a MACK spinning coaster or a Bolliger & Mabillard coaster.
Recently, photos of the construction of this coaster, which is suspected to be named "Time Traveler" after it was discovered that the parent company of Silver Dollar City filed a trademark for the name, have been posted online, and I have them here!
In these photos, you can see that footers are scattered everywhere. Along with that, you can see that some footers come very close to Thunderation in the second photo.
In the third photo, you can see just how much space this new coaster will be taking up. I imagine that not all the footers have been poured yet because the park has confirmed that this attraction is gonna be the biggest thing the park has ever done, so the coaster should have more footers and should take up even more land than we can confirm (not including the suspected sections of track in the woods).
In these photos, you can see that the new station building for this coaster is huge. It is many stories tall, and the level of the actual loading station platform is very high off the ground. This lead screamscape.com and Midwest Info Guide to believe that the coaster will have a large drop out of the station, and that the chain lift or (rumored) launch won't come till later in the ride, and I happen to very much agree.
