Mean Streak RMC Conversion Update #15: An INSANE First Drop and a New Teaser Video
We coaster enthusiasts were hoping for Mean Streak at Cedar Point to get the RMC (Rocky Mountain Construction) Iron Horse treatment, where RMC of Idaho removes the track off of wooden coasters, redesigns the coaster's layout, and places steel I-Box (Iron Horse) track on its existing structure. And as we all know, it is currently happening. We have seen countless photos of the brown Iron Horse track being placed on the former Mean Streak's wooden support structure. From airtime hills to wacky inversions, we have seen the best of RMC's past roller coasters put forth into the new Mean Streak layout. But, this week, we finally have construction occurring on the new first drop. This first drop wont be just any RMC first drop. Not only is this new drop going to be steep like the other RMC coasters, but it will be very steep. I'm talking at or just about ninety degrees straight down. The reason why I'm not certain about the exact angle of the first drop is because there is actually no track on the drop. Our only clues as to how steep the drop will be are the three steel ledgers seen on the drop's support structure (seen in the photo to the right). If I had to guess, this drop will probably be ninety degrees--it seems like a "Cedar Point thing." What I mean by that is that the park has the tendency of going all out on their roller coasters. In the park's "mind," why not go straight down if you have the option to. If this drop is ninety degrees, it would be the first drop on an RMC coaster to surpass eighty-five degrees (that phenomenal drop being found on Goliath at Six Flags Great America). This drop just shows how insane the new Mean Streak will be.
Cedar Point has continued the teasing of this coaster with a new video. The teaser was released just hours ago on the park's social media accounts showing aerial video of the new Mean Streak under construction and ended with the words "They're Wild and Unruly," which is most likely a hint towards the theme/name of the coaster. The name is rumored to be along the lines of "Bandit" or "Convoy," and those words at the end of the teaser do line up with those names, but we won't know for sure whether or not the name is one of those until an announcement comes.
Another thing to point out--this video was, you guessed it, eighteen seconds long. As I pointed out in a previous blog post about a past teaser video for the new Mean Streak, the park is most likely making these videos eighteen seconds long to hint that the coaster will open in 2018, as both "18" and "2018" are/contain the number 18. The reason I think this is because both the video from today and April 1 are not truly eighteen seconds long. The April 1 video was eighteen seconds long, but the actual content of the video ended at about the thirteen second mark and the music ended at fifteen seconds in, which means the park added an additional three seconds to the video that weren't necessary. In today's video, the content of the video ended at approximately twelve seconds in, and the music ended at sixteen seconds in, which means, once again, the park added an additional two seconds to the video. There is no reason other than to hint at the opening date of the new Mean Streak to make these teaser videos many seconds longer than they need to be.
