Silver Dollar City Rep Says New for 2018 Attraction Will Be "The Single Biggest Thing Ever, Eve
In an article published on March 3 on News-Leader, a spokeswoman for Silver Dollar City (Branson, MO) discussed the construction currently continuing on for the new for 2018 attraction.
The spokeswoman, Lisa Rau, said that in reference to the footers being poured and the building being erected on the construction site, "It certainly is a ride. However, the make, the style, the attributes, the name—none of that anybody knows, except a secret vault of people." While Rau is correct, she also kind of isn't. The layout of the footers obviously points toward a roller coaster, and many details of the ride have potentially been discovered because of the park's actions.
Coaster enthusiasts alike have noticed many hints that may give us some idea of what the coaster could be called, such as the name "Time Traveler" that was recently trademarked by the parent company of Silver Dollar City, Herschend Family Entertainment. While you may be questioning why this trademark even points to the new for 2018 attraction, there's a simple answer--the park's actions.
Early last year, Silver Dollar City sent out a survey in which three roller coasters with their own independent themes were provided to survey participants. One of these themes was, of course, time travel. By no means does this mean that this survey was just related to the 2018 project, as the survey was sent after Silver Dollar City would have already wrapped up plans for the project. This could have been a way to see how people would feel about the 2018 attraction's theme and possible elements of the track layout. No matter what, the trademarking of "Time Traveler" and a theme reminiscent of it being on the survey perfectly show what the park could be up to.
Rau also had more to say about this project--she said "There are footings in place, things are starting to move up. It's clear something big is happening. It's not only something big, it’s the single biggest thing ever, ever done at Silver Dollar City. By far." This could mean a few things:
This could be the most expensive project ever done at the park. This would make the most sense as the two companies being thrown around as the possible manufacturers of the coaster, Bolliger & Mabillard and MACK, are very well known for charging top dollar when it comes to the price of their coasters.
This could be the tallest coaster at the park. This also wouldn't be far fetched as the two tallest coasters in the park are 120 feet and 107 feet tall.
This could be the best attraction the park believes it has worked on. This is sometimes what parks are referring to when they use precise wording to hide their real intentions. The words "single biggest thing" are pretty vague.
She also confirmed that the park plans to make a formal announcement later in the year about the new attraction
I will give my feelings on the coaster when it is announced by the park, which will most likely be later this year. When it is announced, it will join the list of epic coasters opening in 2018, either speculated or announced.
